When I first came to Alaska from the east coast, more than a decade ago, I was immediately struck by the summer vegetation. I knew I would love the mountains and expansive sky, but I did not expect to be so taken with the underbrush and every tree I met. I continue to find inspiration in the small and quiet elements of the northern forest, particularly the details that exist up close and underfoot.
I work in both oil and acrylic, often having one or more of each going at a time. I love the buttery texture of oils and the easy clean-up of acrylics. I value the slow-drying time of oils, and equally value the quick-drying time of acrylics--both serve a purpose in my practice.
